Another Western Athletic Conference weekend series ended in disappointment, as the Tech baseball team lost two of three games on the road at Fresno State University.

The Bulldogs (12-21, 3-6 WAC), for the third-straight week, won the first game but lost the remaining two games in a three-game series.

The final score in the Friday series opener was 11-8 in favor of Tech. Saturday's and Sunday's games were blowout losses with scores of 11-3 and 12-4 in the advantage of Fresno, who entered the series winless in WAC play and desperately hungry for their first conference win.

Tech ace Clayton Meyer (4-2) pitched seven and 2/3 innings and had nine strikeouts to record the win for the Bulldogs on Friday night.

The high points in Tech's win on Friday were the efficient offensive production of the middle of the line-up.

Kyle Spangler had four hits and three RBI's, while Mims Boyce and Jeff Walker both had two hits and two RBI's. Spangler (.355) and Walker (.333) both rank in the top 15 in batting average in the WAC.

Both teams scored three runs off three hits in the first inning. Walker stood out for Tech in the inning with a two-run home run to center field to ignite the Bulldog bats.

Tech's biggest offensive output came in the third inning, scoring five runs on four hits. Boyce, Spangler, Holik and Hudson all had singles in the inning. The Bulldogs added one more run in the top of the sixth inning to increase the lead to 9-3.

The Bulldogs held a 9-3 lead until the Fresno offense woke up, adding one run in the sixth inning and four more runs in the eighth inning.

The offensive barrage was led by the two-run home run in the eighth inning by Ryan Haag, who was a Second Team All-WAC selection last year for Fresno.

Tech added two insurance runs in the top of the ninth with Spangler's two-run home run to center field. Ê

Matt Lacy (1-4) pitched the bottom of the ninth to close out the victory for Tech, and he also recorded his third save of the year.

Fresno controlled the entire game on Saturday, never once trailing in the nine innings on their way to an 11-3 victory over Tech.

Fresno's David Griffin (3-2) pitched a complete game giving up three earned runs, while recording an amazing 13 strikeouts against Tech hitters. Tech leads the WAC in strikeouts with 288.

Tech sent four different pitchers to the mound on Saturday. Brandon Hudson (0-1) was the starting pitcher for the Bulldogs only lasting one and 1/3 innings.

Dustin Griggs recorded the longest outing, pitching three innings.

Fresno's hitters lit up Tech pitching, scoring 11 runs on 17 hits. Tech leads the WAC in errors and committed three errors in this game, making a total of 82 errors on the season.

The offensive standout for Tech was Spangler, who had four hits, including a home run to right field.

Fresno showed their offensive attack early, scoring in four out of five innings to take a commanding 9-3 lead at the end of fifth inning. Fresno had three hitters with three hits each for the game.

Fresno scored two more runs in the eighth inning to put a stamp on their win over Tech.

Sunday's series finale produced another depleting loss for the young Tech team, which could only manage four runs in the loss. The Bulldogs produced 13 hits and stranded 10 runners on base.

Tech sent five pitchers to the mound in the loss, giving up 12 runs (all earned) on 13 hits. Lacy (1-4) was the starting pitcher for Tech and gave up five runs on six hits in only pitching four and 2/3 innings.

After falling behind 4-0 in the third inning, Tech made a comeback in the fourth inning off a pair of singles by Sabatini and Hudson, which produced a run for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs plated three more runs off of five hits in the sixth to cut the Fresno lead to 6-4.

The Bulldogs went scoreless for the remaining three innings, while Fresno scored six runs in their last two innings at bat to secure their win.
