Despite adverse weather conditions, Tech's golf team gave a great performance March 29 and 30 by finishing in a fourth-place tie at the Lindsey Collegiate Classic at Eagle Hill Golf and Athletic Club in Little Rock, Ark.

"I felt really good about our performances," head coach Tom Stinson said. "For us to place fourth out of 15 teams is very impressive."

Tech finished Monday with rounds of 299 and 295 in damp conditions and ended with a round of 310 on Tuesday while playing in the wind.

"The weather was absolutely terrible," Stinson said. "We moved up four places on Tuesday even after shooting a 310. That in itself shows how bad the weather was."

Tech finished the tournament tied with Jackonsville State University with a score of 904 (+52).

Sophomore Logan Reister recorded Tech's best individual effort by shooting 225 on the weekend (74-76-75), and Stinson enjoyed the solid play of his underclassmen in the tournament.

"Logan is a very steady and conscientious player," Stinson said. "His performance in this tournament has made him our front-runner for our next tournament."

Freshman Preston Smith shot a 71 and 71 on Monday but played sick Tuesday to finish with an 82.

"Preston had a solid day Monday but came out and played hard Tuesday despite running fever," Stinson said. "He's still young, but he's going to be an outstanding player."

Reister finished the tournament tied for 17th place while Smith finished in a tie for 28th place.

Senior Sean Knox followed with a final score of 229 (76-74-79) while sophomore Chad Carter finished with a 230 (75-77-78).

Sophomore Derek Busby ended the tournament with a 232 (80-74-78).

Stinson was pleased with his team's effort in the tournament, especially in the extreme conditions with such a young team.

"This was a great tournament for us," Stinson said. "We have only one senior and an overall young team. I've very proud of these guys."
