This item originally appeared in the April 14, 2005 issue of The Tech Talk. This being a paper and all I guess you're expecting, us to tell you something you don't already know. Maybe its the truth, the dirt, what The Man is not telling you.
Maybe you'd like to find out that SGA members sleep under their desks or sharpen pencils as their job.
SGA isn't only good for providing free scantrons and pencils (and, oh yea, six scholarships this spring). I am here to change your mind.
With elections taking place and members changing, I have been able to ponder all the ways SGA has changed our school. I am not here to give you a bulleted list because I don't want to put you to sleep. However, telling you about the people involved, I think, should suffice.
As SGA reporter for The Tech Talk for winter and spring quarters, I've had the privilege of attending the weekly SGA meetings on Tuesday nights.
It is a given that Kimberly Ludwig, SGA president, and vice president and president-elect Lindsay Mencacci will be interviewed for every SGA story, and you know it doesn't excite them as much as the first time.
Lindsay is always smiling, ready to hand me any material that I will need for that meeting. She not only does her job but helps me do mine, too.
Interviewing people all the time can make a journalist feel a little like a fly that won't go away, but these girls never mind. You know why? Because they want to share what is going on with the entire student body.
They are not all business either. In the middle of an interview Kimberly even asked me about that guy I was with at Frothy two nights in a row. Even though you can guarantee they will be the last to leave the meetings, they always give me the information I need, and then some.
If you have ever talked to Kimberly you know that girl has a ton of responsibility and you will usually find the conversation interrupted at least once by people who need to talk to her.
But this is not her full-time job. That's right. She is a student and studies at the Frothy Monkey just like the rest of us.
Until we are in their shoes, I do not think we can fully understand what all they do for our school. But their attitude shows that they love this place and will go the extra mile for it. Knowing that is good enough for me.
Kimberly knows how to do her job as SGA president, and having her means peace of mind.
We don't have to worry about her motives or if she is getting her job done.
Be proud of the job she did because I don't think it could have been done better.
Look forward to Lindsay's ascending the SGA throne.
This little lady can do the job. She practically runs everything during the weekly meetings and will have no problem starting right where Kimberly left off.
The SGA as a whole is changing our school. Don't let anyone tell you differently.
Trust me, I have sat through enough meetings to hear the amendment changes, committee projects and volunteer opportunities to believe this.
