After facing the Nevada Wolfpack (15-21, 4-2 WAC) in a three-game conference series this past weekend, the Lady Techster softball team (18-29) came away with one win and a new Western Athletic Conference record of 2-4.

Nevada did the only scoring in game one last Friday evening, when it scored twice in the second inning and once in the top of the third to leave the final score 3-0.

"We had a little trouble with consistency offensively, which can make it a difficult job for the pitcher," Tech head coach Sarah Dawson said.

Despite trouble offensively, senior Amber Miles, freshman Rochelle Sandberg and sophomores Ashley Cameron and Jessica Elson each recorded one hit, while freshman Regan Clark led Tech with two.

Game two started with both teams scoring in the first inning.

In the bottom of the fourth, Tech was able to put one more run on the scoreboard, but the Wolfpack came back to score twice in the top of the sixth to earn a 3-2 lead.

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, it looked as if Nevada was about to take its second game.

But the Wolfpack was short on something the Lady Techsters had -- the hitting and scoring forces of Miles and Cameron.

Cameron drove a shot into left field, scoring Miles and sending the contest into extra innings.

Then, in the bottom of the eighth inning, freshman Brittany Welch hit a one-out double into left field, followed by a single by Ashley Palma, which advanced Welch to third.

Senior pinch hitter Lindsey Meadows then hit a grounder to the Nevada shortstop, who bobbled the ball and gave Welch time to score and close the game at 4-3.

"I was just praying that Lindsey would put it in play and make something happen," Welch said.

Tech ended the game with 10 hits, three RBI and only one error.

"A focus level adjustment was made in the second game," Dawson said. "And the intensity level also went up, which helped us win."

The final game, played last Saturday, featured three Nevada solo homeruns, which helped the Wolfpack overtake the conference series.

Nevada's lead off hitter, Cindy Elkins, drove the second pitch of the game over the left field fence, before the Wolfpack dominated the game by scoring once more in the first, once in the second and twice in the sixth inning.

Tech did manage to squeeze in a run in the bottom of the fourth inning, thanks to a double by sophomore Christine Echols which allowed Welch to score, but the Lady Techsters continued struggling offensively.

The Lady Techsters look to improve offensively tomorrow against UT-San Antonio.
