1. Preoccupation with the Internet (i.e. thoughts about previous online activity).

2. Feeling a need to use the Internet with increasing amounts of time in order to achieve satisfaction.

3. Repeated unsuccessful efforts to control, cut back or stop Internet use.

4. Feeling restless, moody, depressed or irritable when attempting to cut down or stop Internet use.

5. Staying online longer than originally intended.

6. Jeopardizing or risking the loss of a significant relationship, job, educational or career opportunity because of the Internet.

7. Lies to family members, a therapist or others to conceal the true extent of your involvement with the Internet.

8. Use of the Internet as a way of escaping from personal problems or of relieving a distressed mood (e.g., feelings of helplessness, guilt, anxiety or depression).
