Housing to hold annual event, offer food and entertainment

Midnight Splash, an annual event sponsored by the housing department, will begin at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the M.S. Carroll Natatorium.

Students can buy tickets for $3 from any resident assistant, or students can buy tickets for $5 at the door. All students are encouraged to attend.

Midnight Splash is a pool party for students to get to know each other. Free hamburgers and hot dogs as well as drinks will be provided for students who attend.

Students can also participate in pool games or watch "Pirates of the Caribbean," starring Johnny Depp, in the Natatorium.

College sponsors crawfish boil for engineering, science majors

The College of Engineering and Science is hosting its Spring Release XIII Crawfish Boil 4:30 to 7 p.m. today on the east side of Joe Aillet Stadium.

The event is open to all COES students.

Tickets, in the form of T-shirts, can be purchased for $10 in Bogard Hall, Room 217.

Students must wear their T-shirts to be allowed admittance into the crawfish boil.

University to begin new class, educate about frozen desserts

Summer days are soon approaching, and what goes best with the summer heat? Besides the air conditioner, there is always ice cream.

During the second six-week session for the summer quarter, Animal Science 305: Frozen Dessert Production will be offered.

The class will cover the history of ice cream, and students will learn to make different flavors.

There are no prerequisites and students can sign up during registration.

If students are itching to learn how to make this culinary treat, they can talk to their advisers.

Scholarship to honor memory of students; SGA collects funds

A memorial scholarship is being established in the names of three students who died during the previous year at Tech.

Donations and applications for the scholarship can be made at the Student Government Association office, located in Tolliver Hall, Room 211 and 212. The deadline for applications is April 30.

The scholarship amount depends on donations and has not yet been determined.

Fraternity searches for groups to participate during Unity Rally

Upsilon Phi Upsilon is seeking organizations to participate in its third annual Unity Rally from 6 to 8 p.m. April 29 at Centennial Plaza outside the Student Center.

The Unity Rally is a time for all organizations to come together at the end of the school year to show what each group is about so others can get involved.

The event is free and open to the public. There will be food, games and fun for all students and the public.

Deadline quickly approaches for summer graduate session

The deadline for teachers to register for the university's Summer Institute 2004, "Hollywood and the Cold War," has been extended to May 1.

The institute will illustrate how the Cold War was represented in American film. The institute is designed for administrators, librarians and curriculum supervisors serving in public, private and parochial schools.

The course provides three hours of graduate credit and offers participants a $500 stipend. There is an approximate $50 charge for books and materials.

The class will meet from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday beginning June 7 and ending July 1 at George T. Madison Hall. Participants will be notified of an orientation date set in May.

Department to present events; tickets available in Davison Hall

The department of professional aviation will sponsor its annual Aviation Banquet Event this week.

This two-day event will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday with a crawfish boil at the Louisiana Cajun Cafˇ, located at 2017 Farmerville Hwy.

The event ends with the Alumni Student Banquet beginning at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the Student Center, Main Floor.

Capt. Ken Scott of Express One Airlines in Hot Springs, Ark., will be the guest speaker for the Alumni Student Banquet.

Other events to be held include Golf Saturday and a cookout at Ruston's Airport, located on Aviation Boulevard off Highway 146, in the big hangar.

All events are open to the public. Tickets are required for attendance to the banquet and can be purchased in Davison Hall, Room 320.

Applied and Natural Sciences to give away free lunch, prizes

The College of Applied and Natural Sciences will host ANS Day, which is open to Applied and Natural Science majors only.

It will be held 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 29 in the Student Center, Main Floor.

Free lunch and door prizes will be available for those who attend.

T-shirts for the event are on sale for $5 in Carson-Taylor Hall, Room 213, to any student who wishes to purchase one.
