We welcome our new Student Government Association vice president É. Actually, we are just telling you about the candidates. Had you fooled for a minute there, right?
Caleb Smith's main goal is to build an environment of growth and leadership for students through the SGA Senate.
"Those who most greatly benefit from growth are not the ones waiting for something to happen to them, but those who see what could be better and act to make it better," Smith, a sophomore marketing major, said.
Smith has various ideas to help implement his plan of growth on campus. He wants to develop a leadership library for members-at-large and senators as well as develop a sense of community for students that have to stay on campus over the weekends.
"The SGA is not simply about raising or handling the money, but it is about making life richer for students on Tech's campus," Smith said.
Smith also notes leadership qualities he has, such as "learning character, discipline and the ability to lead in difficult circumstances through membership as an Eagle Scout to communication skills and training in government structure through work with Louisiana focus from the leadership institute."
Leadership positions Smith holds, and organizations he participated in this year include being a College of Administration and Business senator and a member of the debate team.
He is also a member of the Chamber Singers, a Leadership Council member at the Baptist Collegiate Ministry and an SGA senator.
Smith said he wanted to run for the position of SGA vice president because he wants to help the SGA grow and receive their maximum potential as an organization and as leaders.
Smith said, "I see what could be, and I want to move in that direction."
