Good things continued to happen for the Tech track team this past weekend in the LSU Alumni Gold Relays on Saturday in Baton Rouge with multiple regional qualifying marks and a photo finish.

Doria Appleberry shattered her school record in the 100-meter hurdles for a second-place finish. The senior also posted a time of 58.56 in the 400 hurdles. Both marks are regional qualifying marks.

"Appleberry ran a fantastic race," head coach Gary Stanley said. "For her to break the school record like she did was outstanding."

The women's 400-meter relay team took the event from LSU by .01 seconds with a time of 44.67 for a regional qualifying mark.

Senior Ayanna Alexander posted a mark of forty-two feet, four and a half inches for her best triple jump of the outdoor season and for the top jump in the NCAA.

Donesha Spivey ran an 11.53 in the 100 meters for the best time in the Western Athletic Conference this season and a regional qualifying mark.

Matthew Craig had a regional qualifying mark with a long jump of 24-9 and a seventh-place finish.

Junior Nolan Jackson finished third in the men's 110-meter hurdles with a 14.18 that was a regional qualifying mark.

Latonia Wilson posted a regional qualifying mark and nearly broke a school record in the 200 with a time of 23.50 and a fourth-place finish.

Nina Gilbert ran a 24.27 in the 200 before clocking a 54.16 in the 400 to come in third among collegians on Saturday.

Wilson's time of 53.32 in the 400 is currently second in the NCAA.

Brenda Grace-Hunt, the nation's leading women's javelin thrower, did not compete in preparation for the Penn Relays.

"Looking at the performances, we had a great meet," Stanley said. "We ran a lot of events, and I think it was a good workout for us in preparation for the Penn Relays."

Stanley said he liked what his team did at LSU, and they are gearing up for the Penn Relays this Saturday, the finals of which will be on NBC at 3 p.m.

"I was real pleased with how the kids handled themselves in Baton Rouge," Stanley said.

"We're now looking forward to what's going to happen in the Penn Relays."
