Tech's softball team continued its Western Athletic Conference hot-streak on Saturday with a victory over the University of Tulsa at the Lady Techster Softball Complex.

The win over Tulsa (40-16, 9-4 WAC) halted the Golden Hurricane's 11-game win streak and improved Tech's record to 23-26 on the year, 6-5 in WAC play.

"We knew Tulsa would be a tough match-up," Tech's head coach Sarah Dawson said. "But the kids responded, and they executed well. I was happy to get the win; the kids deserved it."

The Techsters were credited with the win after leading 1-0 going into the bottom of the fifth inning when the game was called due to rain. After the rain continued into Sunday, both coaches agreed to end the game at five innings and cancel the remaining contest of the weekend.

The only run on the day came in the first inning when Brittany Stanley scored on a two-out RBI single by sophomore Mary Cohn, who accounted for two of Tech's five hits in the game with the others coming from Stanley, Bridgett Broadnax and Amber Miles.

Marla Pinkston (13-15) picked up the win for the Techsters, giving up only two hits and striking out three in five innings.

Prior to the meeting with Tulsa, the Techsters faced Centenary College (29-23) on April 22, winning 1-0.

Tech's offense was quiet early but stringed some hits together in the fourth inning, when Ashley Cameron reached base on a single and then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Cohn.

Pinch runner Nikki Ducey then crossed the plate on a single by Jen LaRussa, beating the tag at home to give the Techsters a 1-0 lead and scoring what would prove to be the winning run.

Tech's offense produced six hits on the day with Stanley leading the way with two, followed by Miles, Broadnax, Cameron and LaRussa with one each.

Kristin Rupp started the game and threw for three innings, allowing only two hits and one walk in the outing.

Then, Lindsey Meadows (4-2) relieved Rupp in the fourth inning and earned the win, compiling five strikeouts while giving up three hits and one walk.

Before the Centenary game, the Techsters were swept by Southeastern Louisiana University (23-25) on April 21.

Tech was unable to produce offensively against the Lady Lions, dropping both games with scores of 1-0 and 3-2.

Pinkston pitched the first game for Tech, receiving a disappointing loss after giving up just four hits and one run in six innings. Kristin Blodgette (3-3) was credited with the loss in game two after allowing one run on no hits and three walks in three innings of work.

"You have to give Southeastern's pitching staff credit," Dawson said. "They were able to change things up and keep us off balance quite a bit. We weren't able to string things together when we needed to."

Before losing both games as SLU, Tech defeated Louisiana-Monroe (15-46) on April 20 with a score of 9-6 to begin a strenuous four-game stretch in three days.

Tech's hitting started off rocky against ULM but ignited in the fourth inning when the Techsters put up six runs on six hits.

The Lady Indians responded in the bottom half of the inning with four runs of their own, but the Lady Techsters' offense remained hot and tallied up three more runs in the game to secure the victory.
