Greek Week, a series of events held by campus sororities and fraternities, was held April 19 through the 23.
Winners of Greek Week were Kappa Alpha for the men's championship; Sigma Kappa for the women's championship; Brandon Zeringue, a Delta Chi, for Greek Man of the Year; and Sarah Goubert, an Alpha Chi Omega, for Greek Woman of the Year.
"We just relaxed and enjoyed being Greek," Zeringue, Interfraternity Council president and a senior chemical engineering major, said.
Zeringue said the men earned points at the games played at the fraternity houses, and the women earned points at games played at their houses as well as through activities such as the blood drive, canned food drive and spirit competition.
Goubert, a senior studio art major, said she was really just honored to be nominated.
"Honestly, I didn't think I would win," Goubert said.
"I was kind of embarrassed because I didn't know what to do. I wasn't expecting it."
The fest began Monday with a high-noon toga run across campus. Zeringue said it was the first such event ever and the student body showed their support by watching.
"It got the response from the rest of the campus that I expected," Zeringue said.
"I hope we started a tradition that will never end."
Tuesday evening consisted of horseshoes and basketball.
Greek games for Wednesday were dodge ball at the Kappa Alpha House and a soapbox derby at the Alpha Tau Omega House.
The festivities continued Thursday with a game of tug of war, coed volleyball and a blood drive in George T. Madison parking lot.
John Rills, a Sigma Nu member and a senior marketing major, watched the soapbox derby, which he said was hilarious.
"No one invests any time in making it, so they're pretty much rolling piles of garbage," Rills said.
Luke Miller, a Sigma Nu member and a junior civil engineering major, also had fun watching the derby.
"It was fun watching the guys build a little Humvee," Miller said. "And it was fun watching it slide across the finish line both times in the soapbox derby."
Friday began with a relay race, followed by a score of belly-flops at the M.S. Carroll Natatorium.
Greek Week ended Friday night with a wrap-up celebration at Rabb's Steak House, located at 2647 S. Service Road West.
"I didn't really participate much," Rills said.
"But I'll be participating tonight," referring to Friday's celebration.
