Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship and Greg Pampell, campus pastor of Chi Alpha, have found a temporary
ministry house at the old Delta Gamma Sorority house, located at 902 Hestia Lane, also known as “Sorority Lane.”
Chi Alpha’s original ministry house,
located at 209 College Street, burned March 2.
Q: When did Chi Alpha move in?
A: We moved in the week of March 19.
Q: How does it feel for Chi Alpha to have a roof over its
head again?
A: It is great to walk into a place to call our own. We
have been homeless for a few weeks, and it’s been hard not to have the office
space. I think it’s the nicest thing to just have a place to lay your hat.
We’ve been having our office in Tolliver Hall and at Crescent City Coffee Shop,
so it’s nice to have a home.
Q: How do you feel about living on Sorority Lane?
A: It seems like it will be fine. We are excited to be
there because it’s a good chance to meet other people who we may have never had
an opportunity to meet. I’m looking forward to interacting with our new
neighbors.
Q: How was Chi Alpha allowed to live on Sorority Lane?
A: The house we have now was originally rented out by the
Delta Gammas, but it was owned by an older sorority called Alpha Zeta. After a
while we just got desperate for a place to stay and it was one of the first
places we found.
Q: What are your plans on renovating the house? How do
you plan to make it your own?
A: We can’t do too much since we are renting it. Mostly
we are just cleaning it up, painting and doing upkeep more than anything.
Q: What are the final damage estimates and money
estimates to the old house?
A: We still have not had a final estimate from our
insurance company. We are still waiting on that. Hopefully, we will hear
something in the next couple weeks regarding it.
Q: How do you like the new house compared to the old one?
A: One reason that I really like this house is it’s a lot
better for the events that we have. The only downside of the new place is we
don’t have any housing facilities. The guys that were living in the Chi Alpha
house have found another house to rent.
Q: What do you miss most about the old house?
A: It’s strange not walking in the old house anymore,
especially being there for eight years. There are a lot of memories tied to that
place. I just like to remember a lot of things that went on and all the good
times. I really don’t know how to explain it.
Q: How do you feel about all the support that Chi Alpha
has received from the campus and the community?
A: It has really been excellent. The word got out really
fast, and we have received so many prayers and extra thoughts. It’s great to
know the community was thinking of us.
