Tech’s golf team participated in the First Tee Collegiate
Golf Tournament, hosted by the University of Arkansas at Little Rock on March
27 and 28, with junior Trey McNeill and freshman Corey Bartlett leading the team
to a strong second-day showing at Chenal Country Club
in Little Rock.
McNeill fired a final-round total of 71 to lead Tech’s
six-man team, followed by Barlett with a score of 72.
Bartlett’s three-round total of 223 placed him tied for
15th overall in the individual competition, with McNeill placing 32nd with a
total of 228.
Rounding out Tech’s scores were freshmen Amrith de Soysa and Taylor Gregg
who both shot a 236 to finish tied for 56th, and freshman Mark Volk, who shot a
237 to finish 60th overall.
Freshman Hjortur Brynjarsson fired a 242 to finish tied for 71st.
In the team competition, Tech finished the final round
strong to improve to finish 13th overall with a score of 920. Tech’s
final-round total of 298 was seventh-best on the day.
McNeill’s final-round score of 71 was tied for second
best of the round, with Barlett’s 72 tied for sixth
of the day.
Lamar won the overall team total with a three-round total
of 877, two shots better then UT-Arlington’s 879. The University of Houston was
third with an 882 score.
North Texas’s Austin Welch won the individual honor with
a 212 total, two better then Pablo Acuna of Houston
and Pat Collogan of UL-Monroe.
Tech will return to the links on April 10 when it
competes in the Arkansas State Golf Classic in Jonesboro, Ark.
