The Lady Techster tennis team
fell to the top-ranked team in Louisiana last Thursday in non-conference action
in Hammond.
The nationally ranked Southeastern Lady Lions (13-3) won
both doubles matches and all five singles matches against a depleted Tech
squad, which could only put five players on the court due to injuries.
The Lady Techsters fell behind
1-0 after a pair of 8-0 losses in doubles play, with the Lady Lions’ duo of
Nina Knavs and Breda Kovac defeated Tech’s Avril
Martinez and Noel Camell in the first doubles match,
and Emilija Arnaudovska and
Iva Velkovska being
victorious over Techsters Alex Gaspar
and Caroline Tran in the second.
In singles competition, Kovac
defeated Martinez 6-2, 6-0 in the No. One match, with
Tran falling in the second by the same score.
For the Lady Techsters, the
best outing went to Ada Makowska,
who managed to win just three games in her two set match with Arnaudovska.
“It was a tough match,” Makowska
said, “but we knew that it was going to be hard going in.”
Makowska said that playing with
five players was tough, but it was especially hard being without their top
player, junior Monica Kelly.
“Monica is our number One, so without her we knew we
might have a tough time.” Makowska said.
The Lady Techsters resume
action with a pair of matches in Houston this weekend, taking on Arkansas at 11
a.m. on Saturday and then the University of Houston at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
