Amber Metoyer, a junior business communications major and a Colorado native, said athletic recruiters may have gotten her to Tech, but the school itself is why she loves it.

"I think Tech is a great school and I love it so far," Metoyer said. "I felt welcomed here."

Metoyer, who is a basketball and track athlete, transferred from the University of Colorado this past year.

"I didn't like my old school because the people were rude and self-centered," Metoyer said. "They only care about themselves."

Metoyer said she found that Tech students carry themselves differently.

"I love Tech people because they are so incredibly nice and genuine," Metoyer said. "I also like how the school is small enough to have your needs met in the classroom.

"If education is your goal [in college], then I would recommend Tech," Metoyer said. "But if you are the party-type student, then you might not want to come."

Metoyer said because her previous school had been ranked No. 1 as a party school, coming to a conservative small town school was quite a transition.

"It hasn't been too bad because I am more focused on school and athletics," Metoyer said. "I like to have fun and go out, but I am not a big partier."

Another difference Metoyer said she has noticed is the culture.

"The culture is much more diverse than my old school," Metoyer said.

"It is more of a mixture racially. My old school was predominantly white."

The biggest difference and downfall, Metoyer said, is the change of landscape.

"I miss the scenery," Metoyer said. "The mountains are gorgeous."
