One-Act Original Play Festival to begin Monday in Stone Theatre

The One-Act Original Play Festival is 7:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday at Stone Theatre, located on the west wing of Howard Auditorium, Center for the Performing Arts.

Tickets are $4 for students with a valid Tech ID, $8 for adults and $7 for children.

Six original one-act plays will show each night.

The plays include "Little Red Riding Hood Reloaded," "Doghouse," "A Wake," "A Friend or Something," "Mixer" and "Konflict."

Society sponsors Relay For Life to raise donations for research

The American Cancer Society's Relay For Life will be held at 7 p.m. May 7 at the Ruston High School track, located at 900 Bearcat Drive.

Teams of people in the community will take turns walking or running around the track in the non-competitive event. Relay teams consist of individuals representing corporations, churches, clubs, organizations, families and cancer survivors.

Students interested in honoring someone who has had cancer or remembering someone who has died of cancer may fill out a form and mail it to the address listed on the form.

Donations will go to the American Cancer Society's mission of beating cancer through research, education, promotion and services.

Candles may be purchased for anyone, not just those from Ruston.

Group holds monthly meeting to discuss upcoming projects

The Association for Disabled Students will have its monthly meeting at 5 p.m. today in the Wyly Tower of Learning Auditorium.

The meeting is aimed to update students about what the association has been doing so far, such as making Tolliver Hall more handicap accessible.

They will also inform students about the association's plans for the summer and fall quarters.

All students are welcome to attend the meeting.

Graduation attire now available; payment required for pickup

Graduation caps and gowns are now available in the Bookstore to those students who have ordered them.

Payment is due when they are picked up. May 21, the day before graduation, is the last day students can get them.

Those who have not ordered their cap and gown yet may still order them. However, a late fee will be added. The Bookstore is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Music ensemble to entertain with works of four composers

The annual Spring Concert, presented by the Band of Pride, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Howard Auditorium, Center for the Performing Arts.

Admission is free and open to the public.

The concert is a joint collaboration between the Wind Ensemble, directed by Lawrence Gibbs, an assistant professor of music, and Dr. Gary Westbrook, an assistant director of bands, and the Concert Band, directed by Sheri Robken.

The performance will feature works from composers Guy Woolfenden, Nornam Dello Joio, Eric Whitacre and Johannes Brahms.

Organization holds supply drive for distribution to local schools

From now until May 21, Gamma Beta Phi will accept donations for their second school supply drive this year.

Supplies collected will be distributed among local schools and given to students in need.

Honor society members may earn one point toward their required six for each item donated. All students are encouraged to donate.

Students, faculty and staff may drop off donations in the office of Kenneth Griswold, Gamma Beta Phi adviser and a professor of biological sciences, located in Carson-Taylor Hall, Room 116.

Foundation seeks participants to run, walk for annual event

The 2004 Race for the Cure is searching for organizations and student volunteers to enter the 5K race or one-mile walk for the fight against breast cancer.

Volunteers will promote team entries and activities, including campus teams and race committees.

They will also work with students from the Monroe and Ruston area and assist in organizing the event.

Of the money raised for the race, 75 percent will remain in Northeast Louisiana to support grants for local education, screening and treatment programs.

The race will begin at 8 a.m. and end at 8 p.m. Sept. 11 at Forsythe Park, located at 507 Trenton St., in Monroe.

The deadline for signing up is 5 p.m. May 19.
