At this time of year, while most seniors are busy planning for graduation and scurrying for jobs to begin the next chapter of their lives, the rest of us are left wondering what exactly to do next. Not only is there the pressure of studying for finals or finishing up last minute assignments, but we also have to plan for the future wisely so that we can soon be in the same predicament as the graduating seniors. But I often find myself at a crossroads towards the end of the year. While one part of me is ready to be done with all the homework and early morning walks to class, another part of me becomes nostalgic and longs to do something that will make a lasting impression of the school year. I am just one of those people who believes that each year of our college lives should be cherished because it is the last time that we get to experience freedom before we enter the land of no return, better known as the “real world.” Yet I can truly end this school year and feel like it is a year that I will never forget. I successfully (with a lot of blood, sweat and tears) maintained a 3.5 GPA and I became a member of the distinguished sisterhood of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. I honestly can say that I treasure every moment of my journey to become a part of the organization and feel very blessed to have met 13 girls along the way who I will always admire, respect and hold a special place for in my heart. But that is just my story. My hope for everyone at Tech is that they find their own story here and their own memorable moment to look back on years from now. Whether it is being selected for the internship of your dreams or finally asking out that girl or boy that you have had your eye on, just make sure it fits you. A lot of people spend so much of their time in college working and stressing that when they get older they look back and have to wonder what if they had just taken a little time out to do something worth while or simply just take a risk. After all, some risk are really worth taking, but if you don’t take any than how will you ever know? So even though the majority of us are not graduating seniors and we have another year of school waiting for us, take advantage of it. Take a little time out before you finish school to do something that will shape your life for the better and still bring you joy when you have long finished college and grown old and gray. We are only given a short amount of time to be young, what will you do with yours? Brittany Wall is a sophomore journalism major from Jackson, Miss and serves as a news editor for The Tech Talk.
