Lady Techster basketball head coach Chris Long announced Thursday, April 22, that he added former Lady Techster Brooke Stoehr and her husband, Scott Stoehr, along with Joni Crenshaw from Troy State University, to his 2005 coaching staff.
Brooke Stoehr -- known as Brooke Lassiter during her Techster playing days -- will serve as one of Long's three assistant coaches, while Scott Stoehr will serve as the Director of Basketball Operations for Tech.
Five-year assistant coach Katie Hall and Crenshaw round out the assistant coaches, and Stephen Pate will return as administrative assistant.
The husband-wife Stoeher tandem --who were married in August of 2004 --served as the top two assistant coaches for Joe Foley at Arkansas-Little Rock this past season, helping guide the Trojans to a 10-19 record for the most wins since the rebirth of the program six years ago.
"I am so excited to have Brooke back at Tech," Long said. "I love her, the fans love her, our players will love her, and future recruits will love her. She possesses an incredible determination to excel at a high level. She has a fire that few people have. There is no one that loves this program more than Brooke."
Brooke Stoehr was a member of Foley's staff for two seasons after serving as a graduate assistant coach at Florida State for one year.
"I am both honored and thankful for the opportunity to work for Chris Long," Brooke Stoehr said. "I believe in him and his ability to lead this program back to the top. The four years I spent as a member of this program and as a member of the Ruston community were some of the best years of my life. My time afforded me much more than I ever dreamed.
"My desire is to work endlessly to give back to the program, Louisiana Tech University and the community as much as I possibly can. Scott and I are thrilled about this opportunity."
As a member of Tech's staff, Long said Brooke Stoehr will be responsible for recruiting Louisiana and Arkansas, serving as the academic coordinator, coaching the Lady Techster guards and being heavily involved in scouting and other aspects of on-the-floor coaching.
While donning the Lady Techster uniform for four years (1998-2002), Brooke Stoehr served as a two-year captain and starting point guard as a junior and senior while leading Tech to a 119-16 mark. She was instrumental in leading Tech to four NCAA Tournament appearances, including one Final Four (1999) appearance and two Elite Eight appearances.
Tech won four regular season and conference tournament titles during her four years and lost only one conference game.
Brooke Stoehr ended her collegiate career as the NCAA all-time career free throw percentage leader at 91.5 percent, hitting 268 of 292 career free throws.
Scott Stoehr comes to Tech with a wealth of Division I coaching experience, after stints at North Texas, Florida State and Arkansas-Little Rock.
"Scott brings eight years of Division I coaching experience with him," Long said. "He has contacts in Texas and has excelled everywhere he has been. He has handled about every responsibility in college coaching at one time or another and will be invaluable to us. The thing that stands out about Scott is his integrity, work ethic and intelligence."
Prior to his one year at Arkansas-Little Rock, Scott Stoehr spent two different stints as an assistant at North Texas. He helped lead North Texas to its most successful period in program history, including three conference division titles and two post-season tournament appearances.
Between his two stints at North Texas, Scott Stoehr spent one year as an assistant at Florida State in 2002-03, where he met his wife. During that season, he helped lead the Seminoles to their second highest win total in school history and its second post-season berth as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Long said Scott Stoehr's responsibilities as the Director of Basketball Operations will include team travel and team office's overall operation.
Crenshaw was the first new member of the staff, named on April 20, and comes from Troy State.
"Joni will be an absolute star in women's basketball," Long said. "She is principled, hard working and has an outstanding presence about her.
"Joni is intelligent and charismatic. She will represent this program and university very, very well. People will absolutely love Joni, as she will be a tremendous role model for our players."
Long said Crenshaw's responsibilities will include recruiting the state of Mississippi and working with the Lady Techster post players.
Crenshaw has spent the past three years at Troy State in Alabama, where she served as the program's recruiting coordinator. Crenshaw also handled post player development, served as the academic coordinator and coordinated Troy State's summer basketball camps.
During her three years, Crenshaw recruited and signed the past two Atlantic Sun Freshmen of the Year in Laura Lee Holman (2004) and Amy Lewis (2005). Lewis was joined by another one of Crenshaw's recruits on this year's Atlantic Sun All-Freshman team.
During her four seasons at center for the Crimson Tide, Crenshaw scored 716 points, grabbed 555 rebounds and registered 103 blocked shots - third most in program history. She started at center for Rick Moody during her final two years and served as team captain as a senior.
