Students and faculty at Louisiana Tech University are engaged in many different
aspects of teaching, research, and discovery. Inventions and copyrights may be
produced by these endeavors that have commercial value. The development,
management, and commercialization of intellectual property require different
cooperative arrangements between the inventor, the university, and the private
sector at different phases. The Office of Economic Development and Technology
Assessment has a major role to play in forging these partnerships consistent with
policy, law, and best practices. Intellectual property at Tech is administered in
accordance with State of Louisiana law and policies approved by the Board of Supervisors
of the University of Louisiana System.
When correctly utilized, intellectual property can produce positive tangible and
intangible results. The major mission of the Office of Economic Development and
Technology Assessment is the identification, protection, marketing, and
licensing of these intellectual properties for the benefit of faculty, staff,
students, university, and society. The success of our licensees is a primary
consideration for commercialization activities. Tech recognizes that licensing
must be a win-win situation consistent with the risk and investment of all parties.
If you are an outside party seeking licenses, technology investment
opportunities, or R&D assistance, you are encouraged to call the office as
indicated below. You may also find it helpful to visit For Outside Companies
and Clients.
All faculty, staff, and students involved with proprietary information and all
creators of intellectual property are reminded of their obligation under Tech
policy to report inventions, discoveries, and other developments having
commercial value. You are encouraged to contact this Office for advice and
assistance. Additional assistance may be found at Information for Tech
