LOUISIANA TECH UNIVERSITY SENATE

Volume 15                   May 2006                    Number 9

 

1.                  Call to Order:  Mel Corley

The May 14, 2006 meeting of the University Senate was called to order at

4:00 p.m. in Ropp Center, Room 105, by President Mel Corley.

 

2.                  Roll Call:  Rose Butler

Senators absent from the meeting:  Jon Pratt and Kevin Merritt.

 

3.                  Adoption of Agenda

A motion was made to accept the agenda.  The motion was seconded and approved.   

 

4.                  Adoption of Minutes

A motion was made to accept the April 24, 2006 minutes.  The motion was seconded and approved. 

 

5.                  Announcements

Ropp Center Access – Discussed in Executive Committee.  No written policy has been received to date.  However, one is expected soon.

Faculty Advisory Council report – Patsy Bourgeois

At the meeting on April 27, a State of the State report was given.  In March, all but two of the state’s universities were up and running.  Summer salaries were discussed.  

CLCU meeting report  - Mel Corley and Patsy Bourgeois attended.  Governor was unable to attend because she met with President Bush who was in Louisiana visiting the area hit by Katrina.  A presentation of her information was presented by Dr. Savoie.  The theme of the meeting was “The Role of Higher Education in Recovery.”

6.         Treasurer’s Report – Gene Johnson

A motion was made to accept the Treasurer’s Report.  The motion was seconded and approved.

 7.        Unfinished Business - none

  8.       New Business

University Senate Chair Award – Senate members voted on and selected a recipient.

 

Virgil Orr Junior Faculty Award – Senate members voted on and selected a recipient.

 

2006-2007 University Senate Officer Election – Senate elected the following:

Vice President – Aziz Saber

Treasurer – Brian Etheridge

Parliamentarian – Amy Vessel

Pauline Leonard was appointed Webmaster

 

 

 

  9.       Voluntary Remarks

Senate Members thanked Mel Corley for his work as Senate President.
