Minutes 

1.                 Call to Order: Patsy Bourgeois

The October 23, 2006 meeting of the University Senate was called to order at 4:05 p.m. in Ropp Center, Room 105, by President Patsy Bourgeois.

2.                 Roll Call: Trey Gibson

Senators absent from the meeting: Bonnie Gerald, Jan Fuller, Charles Cicciarella, Sally Thigpen, Chester Wilson, Tabbetha Dobbins, Galen Turner, Jay Wang, Kevin Merritt , (Jeff Hankins proxy for Brian Etheridge).

3.                 Adoption of Agenda

A motion was accepted to allow the Chair to reorder the agenda and to change the date of the posted agenda to October 23, 2006.

4.                 Approval of Minutes

Minutes from the September 25, 2006 meeting were approved as circulated.

5.                 Treasurer’s Report

The Treasurer’s Report was accepted as presented by Dave Anderson (see attached). A complete budget will be posted on the University Senate web site.

6.                 Announcements

A.     Faculty Advisory Council – Patsy Bourgeois announced that the FAC will meet 10/26/06 at ULM. Both Patsy Bourgeois and Aziz Saber will be unable to attend. A volunteer from the Senate was requested to attend the meeting.

B.      Administrative and Planning Council – Patsy Bourgeois attended the last meeting. Dr. McConathy presented an update of the Strategic Plan. An CD containing images and concepts conveying the impetus of the “new” long-term Strategic Plan is being prepared.

C.     United Way

Ryan Richard, director of Louisiana Tech University United Way Campaign, reported that the University had 23% of faculty and staff to participate in the 2005-06 campaign. The participation goal for 2006-07 is 35%. Kathleen Richard, Development Director of Lincoln Parish United Way, and a representative from Food Bank of Northeast LA spoke to the group re: United Way partnering agencies. Contribution forms will be distributed to all faculty/staff.

7.                 Unfinished Business

A.      Telephone System Improvements - . Patsy Bourgeois mentioned the Senate issue of faculty phone lines during the last meeting of the Administrative and Planning Council.

9.                 Voluntary Remarks

1. Parking –Senators discussed faculty parking concerns after 3 p.m. for faculty and staff teaching night classes or on night duty at PML. Rob Bremer will attend the 10/24/06 Parking Committee meeting. Patsy Bourgeois asked Rob Bremer to chair a focus group to investigate parking concerns. She asked for volunteers from the Senate to participate in this focus group. Patsy Bourgeois has spoken with Chief Quinnelly. Rick Simmons discussed a prior parking survey conducted at the request of the Senate.
2. A motion was accepted to send flowers to Rose Butler from the Senate as she recovers from her illness.
