LOUISIANA TECH UNIVERSITY SENATE

1. Call to Order: Patsy Bourgeois
The September 25, 2006 meeting of the University Senate was called to order at 4:03 p.m. in Ropp Center, Room 105, by President Patsy Bourgeois.
2. Roll Call: Rose Butler
Senators absent from the meeting: Jon Pratt, Jan Fuller, Andrei Paun, Chester Wilson, Ron Cathey, David Smith and Jennifer Byrd.
3. Adoption of Agenda
A motion was made to allow the Chair to reorder the agenda. Motion was accepted. A motion to accept the revised agenda was seconded and approved.
4. Adoption of Minutes
A motion was made to accept the May 14, 2006 minutes. The motion was seconded and approved.
5. Treasurer’s Report
A motion was made to accept the Treasurer’s Report. The motion was seconded and approved. The Senate members thanked Gene Johnson for his work in reorganizing and clarifying the Treasurer’s report.
6. Announcements
A. Introductions – Senate members introduced themselves.
B. Purpose and Attendance – Patsy Bourgeois read the purpose of the Senate and reminded the group of attendance guidelines.
C. Faculty Advisory Council – Patsy Bourgeois entertained a motion to allow Patsy Bourgeois and Aziz Saber to be the Faculty Advisory Council members for the Senate. Motion was made and accepted.
D. University Grievance Committee – Joe Pullis, Chair of the University Grievance Committee, has submitted a request that the Senate approve allowing present University Grievance Committee members, Dr. Lawrence Leonard and Dr. Saul Zalesch, to remain on this committee. Motion made to accept with no further action needed.
E. Administrative and Planning Council – Meeting was held on September 25. Items discussed were:
Document Retention – All should adhere to policies as documents will be audited.
Professorship – On September 26, Joe Savoie will be at Tech to announce the new professorships.
Social Security numbers – Members are reminded that Social Security numbers are not to be used on Tech documents.
Direct deposit – All employees will be encouraged to use direct deposit.
Enrollment – Enrollment is down slightly.
Carroll and Wossman High Schools have teamed up with the College of Education. A handout was given out. These two schools are in need of tutors for at-risk students. Please contact College of Education if interested.
7. Unfinished Business
Ropp Center Policy – Reggie Hanchey discussed the Ropp Center policy regarding who may dine at the facility. A question and answer period followed.
Telephone System improvements – No report. Patsy Bourgeois will continue to work on getting information. A discussion followed.

9. Correspondence
Dianne Douglas sent a thank you card to the Senate for her award.
