Col. A. T. Prescott was the first president
of Louisiana Tech University. President Prescott served from 1895
through 1899. Prescott left the Industrial Institute and College of
Louisiana to become Chair of History and Government at L.S.U.
Col. Prescott and his family moved to Ruston
and took charge of establishing the physical plant. Prescott
personally supervised the erection of the main building and had the plant
ready for opening for the first session on September 23, 1895.
The original two-story building contained
eight large classrooms, a large auditorium, a chemical laboratory and two
offices.
