Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Quarantine and isolation protocol

Louisiana Tech University has adjusted its requirements for positive cases in accordance with recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control.

Students

  • Positive cases should be reported directly to the faculty member or supervisor.
    • Absences are handled according to faculty member’s attendance policy, which MUST be clearly stated in the syllabus.
    • If the student has an on-campus job, they must report directly to their supervisor to notify of their isolation period.
  • If a student tests positive, see CDC guidelines for isolation. CDC recommends the following:
    • Isolate for 5 days after the date of the positive test OR when symptoms first appeared.
    • If symptoms persist or are not improving after 5 days, continue isolation until you are fever-free for 24 hours without medication AND symptoms are improving.
    • Wear a mask for an additional 5 days after leaving isolation.
    • A negative test is NOT required in order to discontinue isolation.
  • If a student is exposed to a COVID positive, see CDC guidelines for exposure. CDC recommends the following regardless of vaccination status:
    • Quarantine is NOT required if you’re exposed to a COVID positive and remain symptom free.
    • Wear a mask around others for 10 days and test on day 5, if possible.
    • If symptoms develop, isolate immediately, get tested, and stay home until results are received.

Testing

Please note that free testing is no longer available on campus.

If you need testing, you can still obtain a COVID test at TechCare – along with a regular visit with a health-care provider. These visits will be filed with your insurance, and you can make an appointment online.

You can also be tested at your primary care physician’s office, at Quick Care at Green Clinic, or other local urgent care clinics. You can also find a local testing site online.
