Dear Tech Family,
Good Tuesday morning.
We are a bit more than a month away from the Nov. 3 Presidential General and Open Congressional Primary Election.
According to the 2018 National Study of Learning, Voting, and Engagement published by Tufts University, students voted at a rate of 39 percent, up from 19 percent in 2014. Despite this increase, student-aged voters still voted at levels well below the national average voting rate of 53 percent for 2018. This follows a trend where young voters participate in elections at significantly lower rates than older citizens.
Our state’s deadline to register to vote by mail or in person is Oct. 3, and the deadline to register on the State of Louisiana’s online system is Oct. 13. No matter how you register, it’s important for us all to play an active role in our country’s future.
To prepare for in-person voting, please review your ballot online. Early voting in this election will be held from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 16-27, every day but Sundays, at your parish registrar of voters. You can also request your ballot online or by mail. Please remember that requesting a mail-in ballot may take additional time.
Take the time to learn about the issues and candidates before Nov. 3, and then make your plans to vote.
We will continue to conduct COVID-19 testing for community members, students, faculty, and staff this week at the Argent Pavilion. Remember to register online at https://www.doineedacovid19test.com/Ruston_LA_1462.html and print your testing voucher to speed the process along. We’ll be there from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day through Friday.
Thank you all for continuing to wear your masks and maintain physical distance. Keep practicing our Culture of Caring – your work is helping us keep more of our community members healthy and safe.
