Dear Tech Family,
Good Saturday morning. I hope you take some time this weekend to unwind and enjoy the great fall weather we’ve been having.
We will continue to partner with the Louisiana Army National Guard to offer free COVID-19 testing through Friday, Oct. 9. Visit the testing site at Argent Pavilion from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. PLEASE take advantage of this free testing site and get tested! We are thankful for the Governor, LANG and LDH for keeping this on our campus for a fourth week.
Remember that registering ahead of time will help speed things along. Register online at https://www.doineedacovid19test.com/Ruston_LA_1462.html and print your testing voucher ahead of time.
We have seen some significant improvement in lower positive case numbers on campus throughout this week. Thanks to our Student Resource Team, contact tracing and testing, as well as your compliance with our safety protocols, reporting, quarantine and isolation efforts, we are making progress. Stay the Course!
Honoring Bob Vento
Yesterday, I had the honor of presenting Registrar Bob Vento with special recognition of his 23 years at Louisiana Tech. Bob recently retired, but will always be a huge part of the Tech Family.
Bob began his career at Louisiana Tech in 1997 after retiring from military service. His commitment to our students – to their success in school and beyond – is remarkable. We’ve all been richer for his presence here, and I know I will miss him.
Because of COVID-19, we weren’t able to have a large retirement party to honor him, but a small group of us gathered at his home in Ruston to celebrate his contributions to our campus community. Please watch this video of the event and then send Bob your best wishes for his retirement. He certainly leaves some big shoes to fill!
Health and safety text messages
Thanks to all of you who registered for the text messaging system last week. In five days, we added more than 1,600 contacts to the system. Yesterday, we also awarded $500 scholarships to three students who registered – Claire Colley, Jenna Justice, and John Virga.
If you’d like to receive text messages from Louisiana Tech and are not already in our system, please complete the form at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScaFY0eKPpcBFpLeTheB4y6XPOWHS4U9wGzsD4qS_PWzsAJpA/viewform?usp=sf_link.
Remember that we’re all responsible for our Tech Family. Keep wearing your masks, washing your hands, and maintaining physical distance. It takes all of us focused on working together to keep our community healthy and safe.
