Dear Faculty, Staff and Students
As we enter this final day of classes for 2020, I want to thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we have had to shift our ways of operating in order to continue to fulfill our education mission – the reason Louisiana Tech exists. This has been a challenging year for all of you. The pandemic has impacted you in many ways and it has disrupted many of the activities that are important to you. Many of you have experienced COVID-19 personally and have seen its effects on your families. It has impacted all of you financially and emotionally. It has caused all of us to miss things that we hold dear. But through all of this, it has helped us understand what things are truly most important to us.
So many of you have done things large and small to help us navigate through this year with some semblance of order. Our faculty have devoted countless hours to shifting your approaches to teaching and advising so that our students could continue to learn and make progress in their academic goals. Our staff have worked to keep our campus operating, and to do so with a sharpened focus on the safety and health of all. Our administrators have kept up with the changes happening nationally while planning for continuity of campus operations and activities. Our student leaders have organized many activities that continue to keep our student body connected, engaged and growing professionally. And our students have responded positively to the protocols that keep our campus operating in a safe way.
Our plans are to return in January and to finish the Winter Quarter according to our normal schedule. You can help us to achieve that by remembering to practice those safety protocols while with your family and friends over the holidays. I ask each of you to plan to get a COVID-19 test before returning to campus. We hope that we can offer more classes in hybrid and face-to-face modes during the Spring Quarter and to continue to hold commencement exercises for those who are graduating. That largely depends upon everyone’s cooperation in slowing the spread of the coronavirus.
There are so many things for which we can be grateful during this holiday season. While we pause to reflect on 2020, let’s celebrate the season by thanking all who have made 2020 better for each of us – despite the circumstances we have faced. Let’s plan to return for the new year refreshed and with a renewed focus on the great opportunities ahead for our Tech Family.
I look forward to working with you all in 2021! Stay healthy and safe, and continue to watch for email updates should they be necessary over the holidays.
