Dear Tech Family,
Good morning. Today begins another week of social distancing, online instruction, and taking care so that our family, friends, and neighbors stay healthy and safe. I appreciate all your efforts to help our city, state, and nation come through this crisis.
Today, I have a few updates and reminders for you all as you begin planning for the summer and fall quarters. Remember, your advisors are available to help – and they want to ensure you continue your educational journey. Make an appointment with them so that you can be prepared for future quarters.
We are planning summer school and are doing our best to make it most beneficial for those of you who want to get ahead, or catch up, earn a new credential, or just get back to campus. We are planning a combination of online and face-to-face classes that will accommodate our uncertainties with COVID-19.
TOPS and Financial Aid
We have learned that TOPS scholarship funding will be available for enrollment in the summer quarter. If you should qualify for TOPS this summer, our Office of Financial Aid will be in contact with you via your Tech email with additional information. You should complete the online summer TOPS formin order to request payment for this summer.
In addition to TOPS, you can complete a summer request for financial aid if you are planning to attend the summer quarter. This request revises your federal aid award, and you should complete an online form to request the change. The Office of Financial Aid will be emailing students who qualify for summer federal aid this week.
Finally, you can request to use a portion of your University scholarship for summer quarter payment. An online form is available to begin this process. We are hoping to offer more scholarships and financial aid to assist you in this difficult time.
Please remember that our Office of Financial Aid is ready to help you with questions about TOPS, federal aid, and other scholarships. Please reach out to them if you need assistance. Though they are working from home, they are available via email at TechAid@latech.edu and through their live chat on the Financial Aid website.
Tip for the Day!
I had someone ask me (on Twitter), “What can we do to avoid going stir crazy while being stuck inside all day with only endless assignments and homework.” This may be the one time in our hectic lives when we must be alone with our household and not get to connect with all of our family and friends. Well, this may be a great time to catch up on some of those things that you never seem to have time to do: read a classic novel, make some phone calls to long-lost family and friends, put together a 1000-piece puzzle, learn to play a musical instrument, write a personal note of thanks to someone who has been special to you, or do Zoom Karaoke with friends.
Thank you all for all your hard work – in the online classroom and beyond – that will help us return to campus. Stay safe and healthy, and let’s make it a great week!
