Dear campus community,
This week, more of our University staff members have moved to teleworking, or working from home (WFH), as a way to help with social distancing on our campus. I know that this approach to working is unfamiliar to many, but it is very effective in keeping the novel coronavirus from spreading. Thank you for taking this step to protect our community. I expect to see fewer cars in the parking lots – and hear about many more Zoom meetings – each day.
I believe that this and other changes we’ve made this quarter will allow Louisiana Tech to make it through this situation and grow as an institution. Though painful, these changes have brought us success and helped us reframe the way we communicate and deliver courses to our students. As we experiment with ideas and find solutions, let’s continue to think creatively about classes and work. This crisis may help us find a new opportunity for our University.
I want to remind each of you of the critical importance of social distancing, and that means 24 hours a day, even as you work from home, at the grocery store or in small groups wherever that may be. And truly, nothing works better than soap and water.
We have almost made it through the first week of our new normal. Please take a few minutes to catch up on some important things, and let’s finish the week strong!
Student services on Zoom
Just as our faculty members have been innovating with course delivery, our Student Advancement professionals have been learning how to use technology to deliver services to our students while ensuring student health and safety. We will soon begin offering tutoring and writing assistance through Zoom, helping both our tutors and students maintain social distance. Our Counseling Services staff are also researching the appropriate ways for our campus to use Zoom to offer tele-therapy for students.
The Louisiana Property Assistance Agency (LPAA) has temporarily suspended the 60-day tagging policy. In order to observe social distancing, the Property Office will not send representatives to campus offices and facilities to tag recently purchased assets until further notice. Once campus operations have returned to normal, the Property Office will resume asset tagging.
Student Electronic Direct Deposit Authorization
Louisiana Tech students are encouraged to authorize electronic deposit of their student refund and payroll checks if they have not already done so. Students who have already signed up for electronic deposit are not required to update their authorization unless their banking information has changed. A student may be eligible to receive a refund if the amount of the scholarships, financial aid, and other credits exceeds the amount of the tuition, fees, and other charges shown on the student account summary.
It’s simple to authorize direct deposit. Please pass these instructions on to your student workers:
- Logon to BOSS (boss.latech.edu) using your BOSS PIN
- Select “Electronic Deposit of Refunds/Student Payroll” option on the Personal Info menu
- Follow the instructions to complete the Electronic Deposit Authorization form
- You must provide the bank routing number and account number that are located on your check or deposit slip.
Employee time, attendance, and leave reporting
Because many University employees have begun working from home, Louisiana Tech is working to provide an online solution for submitting and approvals of timesheets and attendance and leave reports. We will update you on instructions as this process progresses, and while this solution is being developed, we ask your patience with payroll and human resources employees.
