Dear campus community,
Good Monday morning, Tech Family.
It’s hard to believe that we’ve been delivering online courses all across campus for every major for five weeks now. I have sat in on several courses this quarter and continue to be proud of all of our faculty and students who are working together during this tumultuous time to ensure the continuity of learning and academic progress.
We’ve all experienced stress during this past month, and sometimes it feels like that stress is just too much. That’s why, each weekend and other times throughout the week, I ask you to take time to relax and recharge. I recognize how uncertainty can get to all of us, and it’s important for everyone to take breaks.
I know some of you are experiencing stress and anxiety like you’ve never encountered before this pandemic. That’s why our Louisiana Tech Counseling Center has instituted Mental Health Mondays. Each Monday, the Center will share ideas on social media relating how to process your uncertainty and how to deal with your anxiety and stress. Our University social media accounts will share their posts as well.
Please remember the professionals in our Counseling Center are here for you despite the fact that we’re not all on campus right now. Individual student therapy appointments are still being conducted – just via a secure Zoom connection or phone call to students. These tele-therapy appointments can only be conducted for students in the state of Louisiana, but we can help you find a mental health professional in your area if needed. To schedule an appointment as a new client or a current client you will only need to call 318.257.2488.
Anxiety and academic achievement group therapy sessions have been established via Zoom as well. You can sign up to participate in these weekly sessions at 318.257.2488.
Just remember, you can call on any faculty and staff member at Louisiana Tech if you are in need of help. I know we are all committed to helping ensure our students stay both mentally and physically healthy in these times.
Have a great Monday, all. Stay safe, stay healthy, and stay connected. Remember to reach out if you need assistance.
