Dear campus community,
Good Wednesday morning.
Monday night, I was privileged to be able to listen to and learn from our students, faculty, and staff during a safe space discussion on the Current State of the Black Tech Student, sponsored by our Office of Multicultural Affairs. The meeting was designed to allow African-American students the opportunity to share their needs and concerns and to create awareness of resources that are available here at Tech.
The discussion was uncomfortable for me at times, but I gained a much better understanding of what these members of our Tech Family experience each day of their lives. I am so grateful that they invited me to join in on these candid, authentic, and powerful discussions, and I look forward to engaging with these – and more – students soon. We know we have work to do in order to increase opportunities, equity, and inclusion for our students. I look forward to putting in the work with others on campus to achieve our goals.
Today, I have a few important deadline reminders for everyone.
Pass option deadline
Today is the deadline to file the pass option paperwork. The online form will be available only through the end of business today.
If you are requesting the Pass Option for the Spring 2020 quarter, download and complete the form and type your name and date on the appropriate line. You will then need to save the form and forward it to your advisor, preferably in conjunction with an advising session where you discuss the academic impacts of the Pass Option. Your advisor will then electronically sign the form and forward it to your college dean. The forms will then need to be sent to the Registrar’s Office with a copy sent to the Office of the Provost. Please include Pass Option – Student name, CWID in the subject line of the email.
If you do not hear from your advisor after submitting the form, you should contact the head of your academic unit.
Please also remember that there are possible implications for requesting the pass option. You can learn more about the choice from the Pass Option FAQs online.
You still have time to register for classes during the summer session. We’ll be offering our first-half and full-term courses online, but we plan to have many of our second-session classes face to face.
We offer scholarships and special CARES Act grants for our summer students, so take the opportunity to learn more about summer at Louisiana Tech at latech.edu/summer. Late registration ends Friday, so you still have time to Level Up!
Have a great start to the summer, Bulldogs. I look forward to starting Phase Two of our Return to Campus plan next Monday. I know we’re all ready to see old and new friends in person very soon.
