Dear campus community,
Good Friday morning. We’re all getting ready for the weekend, and I hope you can find some time to relax on Saturday and Sunday.
I have heard from several of you that you’re feeling stressed with the change to online courses. Along with encouraging you not to give up this quarter, I’d like to encourage you to seek out help from tutors and counselors if you need it. Visit the Student Resources section of our Coronavirus website to find out more. Please reach out to one of our faculty and staff if you need help. I assure you that there are ways that we can help you navigate through any challenges.
In addition to these resources, we have some really good news for our students. The Good Nutrition Mission Food Pantry in Carson Taylor Hall will be reopening next Monday. The food pantry will be open from noon to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
The only access to Carson Taylor will be on Adams Circle side of the building. Tables will be set up in the lobby area to prevent wandering through the building. Given the challenges with this arrangement, we will limit the amount of supplies that can be accessed each day.
Students will need to present their current CWID, current Tech email, and current telephone number to use the Food Pantry.
Technology to borrow
Technology that is useful for distance learning is now available through Prescott Memorial Library.
Webcams are still available for faculty and through checkout to students. We have also added laptops (that include built-in microphones and webcams) to the items that can be checked out.
Students can check out a laptop from the Library until the end of Spring Quarter. Please call the circulation desk at 318.257.3555 before coming in to ensure availability.
Friday Q&A Café
At 10 a.m. today, the Center for Instructional Technology will again join the College of Education’s HUB to host Louisiana Tech’s second Friday Q&A Café for faculty and staff.
If you are available, grab a cup of coffee and join us for a round-table Zoom session to discuss challenges involved in online teaching, strategies for overcoming them, and sharing ways we have overcome.
Join our meeting at https://latech.zoom.us/j/729919360.
Finally, many of you have asked about plans for commencement. We are working with SGA President Abi Olsen and student leaders in our planning efforts. Rest assured, we will celebrate our Class of 2020 – you all are worthy of our greatest applause! We are still working on the timing and format. Stay tuned for announcements.
Have a restful weekend, and remember to practice social distancing and continue to wash your hands!
