Dear campus community,
Good Wednesday morning.
Yesterday, I thoroughly enjoyed a visit with our Bridge to Bulldogs students led by Melanie Peel. These students have had a most productive experience during this second summer term and will be well prepared to be successful as they enter their academic programs this Fall. Special thanks to Melanie for putting her heart into this program and these students.
This week, our leadership team continues to meet with deans and department heads in each of the colleges. We are listening and learning much from our sessions with Louisiana Tech’s academic leaders, and we are working to implement additional measures based on feedback we’ve been given. We want to use this month between now and the beginning of Fall classes to continue to enhance our readiness for a safe and successful Fall Quarter.
One thing that will not be adjusted is our University’s requirement for our students, faculty, and staff to wear masks indoors and outdoors to help protect others from the spread of the virus. Masks may be removed in private offices but should be worn properly in all other spaces on campus. We all need to understand that this is essential for us to get back to a normal operating condition sooner than later.
Remember that failure to properly wear a face mask can result in discipline through the Student Code of Conduct or personnel action, as appropriate. Our Division of Student Affairs is working on video training for faculty and staff the focuses on our campus code of conduct and its enforcement. I know our Tech Family can respond to the need to follow our state mask mandate and that we will be respectful to one another as we do so.
Frequently asked questions
As we near the start of the Fall 2020 Quarter, we will be adding a section of frequently asked questions to our Return to Campus plan. No doubt, members of our Tech Family have questions, and we’d like to ask you to submit those online at latech.edu/coronavirus/return-to-campus-plan/communication-feedback-and-adjustment/.
Please remember to continue wearing your masks – both on and off campus – and practicing physical distancing. I look forward to seeing everyone on campus soon.
I am sure that many of you are involved with or keep up with Tech athletics. As you may have seen in the news, several athletics conferences have elected to postpone Fall sports. We are also heavily involved in those discussions for Conference USA, staying in close contact with our athletics administration, top medical advisors, the NCAA, and other athletics conferences. Our student athletes and our athletics staff are an integral part of the Louisiana Tech Family and we value what they add to the great college experience here. These student athletes are foremost in our thoughts during this uncertain time. I will let you know when any decisions are made for our athletics program.
