Dear students, faculty, and staff,
Good Tuesday morning.
As we learn more about COVID-19, guidance from scientists and medical experts continues to change. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) regularly adjusts its guidelines on ways to slow the spread of the virus.
CDC recommends that people wear cloth face coverings in public settings and when around people who don’t live in your household, especially when other physical distancing measures are difficult to maintain.
Cloth face coverings are recommended as a simple barrier to help prevent respiratory droplets from traveling into the air and onto other people when the person wearing the cloth face covering coughs, sneezes, talks, or raises their voice.
Currently, CDC experts do not know if neck gaiters provide any benefit as protection for others from the spray of respiratory particles. CDC does not recommend use of neck gaiters as a substitute for cloth face coverings.
In your preparations for returning to campus, please remember the CDC guidance and use appropriate face coverings to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Summer graduates tribute
Commencement is one of my favorite events and one of my most cherished responsibilities as President of Louisiana Tech. Though we have canceled our plans for the Aug. 20 commencement ceremonies, we will be conferring degrees this Thursday and mailing some special packages out to our Summer 2020 graduates. Those special packages should be mailed out on Thursday.
At 10 a.m. this Thursday, we will premiere of a special video honoring our Summer 2020 graduates on Louisiana Tech’s Facebook page and YouTube channel. I hope you’ll mark your calendars and join me in watching this special tribute.
I hope everyone will have time during the break after summer quarter to rest and relax.
**PLEASE** Remember to wear your masks, wash your hands, and practice physical distancing. Each one of us must assume that responsibility so we can be ready for a productive Fall 2020 Quarter.
