Campus Update – Fall Preparations
Dear students, faculty, and staff,
Good Thursday morning.
We begin our first day of Fall Quarter classes two weeks from today. I am looking forward to that day! As we approach the Fall Quarter, many of you have questions related to how classes and other activities will be conducted.
Our IRT members have been meeting throughout the summer, responding to the particular conditions of our region in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic. Much has changed since this time last year; we continue to have the primary goal of keeping our campus community safe. I deeply appreciate the tremendous dedication this IRT team has had in analyzing information and data from many sources and developing plans for a safe and productive campus environment for the Fall. Success depends upon each one of us doing our part!
We currently know vaccinations and masks are the best way to keep spread to a minimum. These precautions also mitigate the effects of the virus. The recent approval from LDH for the addition of the COVID-19 vaccine to the list of required vaccines was announced earlier this week, and our University has vaccination events planned to help ensure our faculty, staff, and students have numerous opportunities to be vaccinated. More details will be sent to the campus community in the near future.
Details on the process of uploading vaccination verification – as well as information on the process surrounding waivers – will be sent to students in the next few weeks. Proof of Vaccination or a waiver will be required prior to registration for Winter Quarter in early November. Once the process is in place, submitting documentation in advance of Winter registration will be encouraged to avoid delays. Please don’t delay in getting vaccinated!
Masks for Fall Quarter
Masks will be required indoors in all Louisiana Tech buildings this fall. This measure is in accordance with the State of Louisiana’s mask mandate. Signage has been placed within each building on campus. The sooner that we can reduce the spread of COVID-19, the sooner that these requirements may be relaxed. If you are in a building that needs more signs, please contact the Office of University Communications at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Our goal for this fall is to offer classes with face-to-face instruction and to have as many engaging activities for our students as possible.
Student Resource Team
Last academic year, the Student Resource Team played a valuable role in helping ensure our campus community could stay healthy while our students continued to progress toward their academic goals. Reporting guidance is located on our Coronavirus website (latech.edu/coronavirus).
Updated quarantine and isolation guidelines – crafted from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance – can be found online as well. Please familiarize yourself with the changes in the guidelines before we begin the Fall Quarter.
Testing will continue to be available at the following locations:
- TechCare – You can make an appointment for testing at TechCare online.
- Ropp Center – The National Guard will be conducting PCR testing from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each weekday, starting Monday, Aug. 30.
Please continue to practice safety measures between now and the beginning of classes! The things that you do to stop the spread TODAY will help us all achieve our goals for a safe campus for the Fall Quarter. I look forward to seeing you in the Quad two weeks from today!
And please continue to pay attention to your campus email account for important information about vaccination and testing opportunities.
