Campus Update – Quarter-end Stress
May 10th, 2022
Dear students, faculty, and staff,
Good Tuesday morning.
I know we all have lots of stress during this time of the academic year. Final exams and projects, studying and working hard can all add to our anxiety.
Our Counseling Services Center in Keeny Hall provides opportunities for students to talk through their challenges, and their support can be especially helpful this time of year. You can find links to emergency resources and counseling appointments, as well as information on group sessions, on the Center’s website at latech.edu/counseling-services.
If you need emergency help, please remember you’re not alone. Call the Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1.800.273.TALK (8255), or text TALK to the Crisis Text Line at 741741. Louisiana Tech students can also call the Louisiana Tech Police Department at 318.257.4018.
Summer scholarships
As we close out our Spring Quarter, remember there’s still time to register for summer classes. We’ll also offer Summer Quarter students Loyal Blue Scholarships to assist them with the costs of enrolling next quarter.
Undergraduate students taking eight or more credit hours will receive a scholarship of $200, and those taking four to seven credit hours will receive a scholarship of $150. Those who take one to three hours will receive a scholarship of $100.
Graduate students taking seven or more hours will receive a scholarship of $200, and those taking four to six credit hours will receive a scholarship of $150. Graduate students who take one to three hours will receive a scholarship of $100.
In addition to the scholarships, Louisiana Tech will waive online fees for summer classes. These incentives and more sections of in-demand classes – those that can serve as a bottleneck to your academic progress – make the summer a great time for enrolling in a class or two.
Advising for currently enrolled students will begin next week, so take a look at the list of summer classes available on the University’s catalog pages.
ARP grant funds
Our American Rescue Plan (ARP) Grant program will also continue into the Summer Quarter. The ARP Summer Grant Application will be available June 2-10 for all Summer sessions.
Disbursements of funds for Summer Quarter 12-week, first six-week, and first three-week sessions will not begin until June 21 after all applications have been reviewed.
If funding remains, disbursements for students only enrolled in second six-week and second three-week sessions will not begin until July 14 (if the student applied prior to the June 10 deadline).
The ARP Grant Application will be available for eligible students on AcademicWorks beginning June 2. You may contact CaresActGrant@latech.edu for information on the ARP Grant.
