Alcohol & Other Drug Education
As a student you will make choices concerning your use of Alcohol and/or other drugs. You may have already made the choice as to what role alcohol and drugs will play in your life in High School or before. The decision to use will have an impact on your life in many areas including your academics, finances, and your personal well being. Your decisions in this area will need to be healthy ones. You should always know the facts about your body and what effect addictive substances have on your body and mind.
What are the facts about alcohol and drugs?
Fact: It is illegal to drink alcohol before you are 21 years old.
Did you know that you could receive a minor in possession (MIP) charge for simply holding someone’s drink for them? If issued an MIP you could face a possible fine, mandated counseling sessions, community service hours, or even jail time.
Fact: A driver is considered under the influence if his/her Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) is 0.08% or higher.
Did you know that you can be issued a DWI for operating not only a motor vehicle, but also any other means of conveyance? A first offense DWI is punishable by a fine of $300 – $1000 and 10 days – 6 months imprisonment (exceptions are in place).
What can counseling offer me and/or my friends?
Counseling services offers both individual and group counseling for the students of Louisiana Tech University. Assessments are made available and include but are not limited to the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) and the Substance Abuse Subtle Screening Inventory (SASSI).
Individual and group sessions are set up by appointment or walk in and can be made by calling (318)257-2488 or visiting Keeny Hall, Room 310.

Visit the Alcohol Education site if you are mandated through Behavioral Standards at Louisiana Tech University to complete Drug and Alcohol Counseling through Louisiana Tech Counseling Center. If you have any questions, please call the Counseling Center at 318-257-2488.
