Brett Mattison, ’86, president and COO of Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO), will deliver the Inside the C-Suite lecture for Louisiana Tech University’s College of Business on Thursday, Dec. 11, at 4 p.m. in Davis Auditorium (College of Business 101). The lecture, sponsored by Enterprise Mobility, is open to the public.

“Brett has built an outstanding career by doing exactly what we ask of our students—solving complex problems, serving others, and leading with integrity,” said Dr. Chris Martin, dean of the College of Business. “From his days as a finance student to leading a major utility that powers communities across our region, he has consistently paired business expertise with a deep commitment to service. I hope our students will see themselves in his story and leave inspired to pursue leadership roles that make a real difference.”

Inside the C-Suite provides a forum for top corporate leaders from some of the nation’s most prominent companies to discuss the issues keeping them up at night. Designed to spark meaningful conversation, senior executives speak on emerging trends, share leadership lessons, and provide career inspiration for students. Topics span core business themes, including the current economic climate, ethics, corporate responsibility, leadership, globalization, strategic planning, entrepreneurship, technology, and innovation.

As SWEPCO’s president and COO, Mattison is responsible for the company’s electric distribution system, engineering, operations, construction, and maintenance, serving approximately 547,000 customers in Louisiana, Arkansas, northeast Texas, and the Texas Panhandle.

Mattison most recently served as president and chief operating officer of Kentucky Power, a SWEPCO sister company. Since joining SWEPCO in 1990, he has held roles of increasing responsibility, including director of customer services and marketing, where he oversaw the management of SWEPCO’s largest industrial and wholesale customers, as well as meter reading and services, energy efficiency programs, and process improvement initiatives.

Active in the community, Mattison serves on the boards of the Paramount Arts Center in Ashland, Ky., and One East Kentucky, an organization focused on economic development in Eastern Kentucky. He is a member of the Louisiana Committee of 100, serves on the advisory council of the Center for Public Utilities, and is a member of the AEP talent board and the Louisiana Tech College of Business Dean’s Advisory Board.

He has previously served as a commissioner for the Bossier Metropolitan Planning Commission, president of the United Way of Northwest Louisiana and two-time chair of its annual campaign, a board member of the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce, and an executive board member of the Bossier Chamber of Commerce.

Mattison graduated with a bachelor’s degree in finance from Louisiana Tech in 1986.
