Louisiana Tech University has a mission and commitment to expand and enrich the diversity of the student body. The Office of Multicultural Affairs is aiding in this mission by aggressively recruiting and retaining students from first-generation, low-income and various cultural, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds with diverse interests, perspectives and life experiences. Student academic success is the goal of the Office of Multicultural Affairs. Recipients of scholarships will not only benefit from financial assistance but from workshops, study hall, mentoring and involvement in on-campus activities.
Application eligibility for incoming freshmen
- Applicants must be admitted to Louisiana Tech
- Applicants must be a US citizen or permanent resident
- Applicants must have a high school unweighted cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- Additional Considerations:
- Demonstrated leadership qualities in community service, extracurricular and/or other activities
- History of overcoming unique challenges
- Member of an underrepresented minority or ethnic group
- Member of a low-income family
- Reside in a rural or inner-city location
Application eligibility for current Tech students
- Applicants must be degree-seeking and full-time enrolled students
- Applicants must be US citizen or permanent resident
- Applicants must have a Tech cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher
- Additional Considerations
- Demonstrated leadership qualities in community service, extracurricular and/or other activities
- History of overcoming unique challenges
- Member of an underrepresented minority or ethnic group
- Member of a low-income family
- Reside in a rural or inner-city location
Unfortunately, a scholarship will not be offered to every excellent student who meets the requirements and applies. However, we assure that each application will receive consideration and fair treatment in what is a very competitive process.
Application requirements
Submit a completed application form (OMA SCHOLARSHIP FORM), additionally please provide the following:
- One letter of recommendation from your high school principal/counselor or teacher – letters from relatives will not be accepted (for incoming freshman only) – emailed directly from the referent on letterhead to diversity@latech.edu
- Once letter of recommendation from a college professor, advisor or administrator – letters from relatives will not be accepted (for current Tech students only) – emailed directly from the referent on letterhead to diversity@latech.edu
- Resume including work, school and volunteer experience (current Tech students only) – emailed directly to diversity@latech.edu in pdf format only.
Application deadlines
Applications for the 2019-20 academic year are due by midnight April 5, 2019.
Scholarship Requirements
All recipients of scholarship funds awarded through the Office of Multicultural Affairs are required and encouraged to attend workshops, study hall, mentoring opportunities and on-campus activities during the academic year that the award is granted. Details of specific requirements will be outlined if awarded one of the scholarships.
Scholarship awards are renewable depending on student academic success and participation in workshops, mentoring and involvement in other on-campus activities.
