Policy:

Louisiana Tech University has established Hardship Waivers to provide limited, partial tuition/fee assistance to its most needy students.  Students meeting the following criteria may receive a waiver of the amount of an increase in tuition and fees for the quarter in which increases are first applied if funds remain available.

Criteria

In order to qualify for the Hardship Waiver, students must;

  • be a Louisiana resident; and
  • be a full-time or part-time student; and
  • qualify for Pell Grant as determined by the Department of Education if an Undergraduate student, have financial need as defined by the FAFSA if a Graduate Student; and
  • maintain continuing academic eligibility for federal financial aid; and
  • have a cost of attendance greater than the financial aid that they have accepted; and
  • have not declined federal financial aid (other than Parent PLUS); and
  • have no other scholarships or waivers that cover the same fee increases.

Other Guidelines

  • The cost of attendance must be greater than the amount that may be available to the student from all forms of financial assistance (excluding loans).
  • The waiver cannot be used in connection with other scholarships and waivers that partially or entirely cover the same fee increases.

Duration

  • The waiver is applicable to fall, winter, and spring quarters and is revalued on a quarterly basis based on any relevant tuition and fee changes.
  • Summer quarter waivers are not available.

Awarding Process

Students may complete and submit award applications by the applicable deadlines to be considered for the waiver. The Financial Aid Office will award hardship waivers to needy students as funds are available on a first come, first serve basis and in order that financial aid is processed.

Retention

The student must continue to meet the criteria each quarter to receive the waiver. The waiver will be in effect for the three quarters of fall, winter, and spring.

Notification Process

Students will be notified by email and will be instructed to accept the award prior to a disbursement of funds.

Tracking

The Office of Financial Aid will maintain records on the number of waivers disbursed and value of awards granted. Information shall be reported on BOR 5 in accordance with the Board of Regents guidelines.
