The Young Minds Lab

Inside the minds of our youngest learners

The Young Minds Lab investigates cognitive and socioemotional development during early childhood, focusing specifically between the ages of 3 and 6. Currently, the lab is exploring the emergence of moral disgust. The research aims to understand when and how children begin to perceive moral transgressions not just as bad, but as disgusting, and what factors may influence this shift in moral judgment.

The lab is directed by Dr. Tonya Vandenbrink and currently includes three undergraduate student researchers. Research is carried out in a variety of settings, including local schools, childcare centers, and the lab’s dedicated space on South Campus.
