The School of Human Ecology at Louisiana Tech University is proud to offer two undergraduate
programs — Human Development and Family Science and Fashion Merchandising and Retail
Studies — that are accredited by the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences
(AAFCS).
Accreditation by AAFCS confirms that these programs meet the highest standards of
quality in family and consumer sciences education. Students in the School of Human
Ecology receive a comprehensive academic experience that prepares them for professional
roles focused on enhancing the well-being of individuals, families, and communities.
The AAFCS Accreditation Program is built on research, best practices, and qualitative
indicators of performance. It emphasizes program effectiveness, efficiency, and productivity,
with a particular focus on student learning outcomes. As the field continues to evolve,
accreditation standards are periodically updated to reflect current professional expectations.
This peer-reviewed accreditation process is designed to be rigorous, meaningful, and
responsive to technological advancements. It applies to all post-secondary family
and consumer sciences programs, regardless of differences in size, specialization,
delivery methods, or institutional affiliation. Through this accreditation, the School
of Human Ecology demonstrates its ongoing commitment to delivering high-impact education
that meets the needs of today’s students and future professionals.
The Human Development and Family Science, Child Life concentration, is endorsed by
the by the Association of Child Life Professionals (ACLP). This endorsement recognizes the program’s excellence in preparing students
for careers as Certified Child Life Specialists.
Housed within the School of Human Ecology, this program is one of only eight undergraduate
programs in the United States to achieve this distinction. The endorsement reflects
the program’s alignment with ACLP’s rigorous academic and professional standards,
including coursework, clinical preparation, and faculty qualifications.
Students in the Child Life concentration gain the knowledge and skills needed to support
children and families in healthcare settings, helping them cope with illness, injury,
and hospitalization through developmentally appropriate interventions. The endorsement
affirms Louisiana Tech’s commitment to providing high-quality education that meets
national standards and prepares graduates for impactful careers in child life.

Teacher preparation programs in the Curriculum, Instruction, and Leadership Department
at Louisiana Tech are accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). The CAEP ensures the preparation of highly qualified educators through the accreditation of
programs in which data drive decisions; resources and practices support candidate
learning; and candidates demonstrate knowledge, skills, and professional dispositions
geared toward raising student achievement. The purpose of this page is to provide

The College of Education and Human Sciences is accredited at the initial licensure
level through Fall 2025. The next site visit will take place in spring 2025.

Annual Institutional Effectiveness Audits
The Master of Science in Kinesiology's concentration in Sports Performance is recognized
by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Education Recognition Program (ERP). The NSCA Education Recognition Program (ERP) recognizes regionally accredited academic
institutions for their educational programs that have met, and continue to meet, educational
guidelines recommended by the NSCA. ERP recognitions are good for three years and
schools are eligible for renewal following this three-year period.
Louisiana Tech University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and
Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award associate, baccalaureate, master’s,
and doctoral degrees. Louisiana Tech University may offer credentials and diplomas
