The School of Human Ecology at Louisiana Tech University is proud to offer two undergraduate programs — Human Development and Family Science and Fashion Merchandising and Retail Studies — that are accredited by the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS).
Accreditation by AAFCS confirms that these programs meet the highest standards of quality in family and consumer sciences education. The Child Life concentration within the Human Development and Family Science degree program at Louisiana Tech University has received undergraduate endorsement from the Association of Child Life Professionals (ACLP). This endorsement recognizes the program’s excellence in preparing students for careers as Certified Child Life Specialists.
Housed within the School of Human Ecology, this program is one of only eight undergraduate programs in the United States to achieve this distinction. The endorsement reflects the program’s alignment with ACLP’s rigorous academic and professional standards, including coursework, clinical preparation, and faculty qualifications.
Students in the Child Life concentration gain the knowledge and skills needed to support children and families in healthcare settings, helping them cope with illness, injury, and hospitalization through developmentally appropriate interventions. The endorsement affirms Louisiana Tech’s commitment to providing high-quality education that meets national standards and prepares graduates for impactful careers in child life.

The Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) ensures the preparation of highly qualified educators through the accreditation of programs in which data drive decisions; resources and practices support candidate learning; and candidates demonstrate knowledge, skills, and professional dispositions geared toward raising student achievement.
