Innovative minds at Louisiana Tech

Our research faculty are leaders across all disciplines. Their work drives innovation, strengthens communities, and creates opportunities for students to learn from active scholars.

Meet our Researchers

Dr. Teresa Murray

Dr. Murray is the director of The Integrated Neuroscience and Imaging Laboratory in CBERS. Her lab develops cutting-edge tools for neuroscience and leads long-term studies on traumatic brain injury, stroke, epilepsy, and other neurological disorders, helping researchers better understand the brain and improve treatments for patients.

Dr. Lee Sawyer

Dr. Sawyer is a professor and academic director for Chemistry and Physics at Louisiana Tech University. He works with the world’s most advanced physics experiment: the ATLAS detector at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider in Geneva, Switzerland. Dr. Sawyer’s research dives deep into the building blocks of the universe. Through the ATLAS experiment, Dr. Sawyer is helping uncover the secrets of matter at the smallest scales and highest energies ever explored.

Dr. Yang Xiao

Dr. Xiao is an assistant professor of Chemical Engineering and lead researcher of the Xiao Group in the IfM. His lab focuses on reaction engineering and catalysis science to help build a more sustainable energy future. Dr. Xiao's research tackles challenges like transforming methane and biomass into valuable chemicals and fuels. With a team of Ph.D., Master’s, and undergraduate students, the Xiao Group combines hands-on experiments and simulations to bridge the gap between breakthrough science and real-world innovation in energy and chemical production.

Dr. Tom Stafford

Dr. Stafford is a J.E. Barnes professor of Computer Information Systems. He has edited 13 special issues for top journals like Communications of the ACM, MIS Quarterly, and IEEE Transactions. He’s also served as Editor-in-Chief for Decision Sciences and The DATA BASE for Advances in Information Systems. A leader in his field, he’s chaired major conferences like the 2018 Americas Conference for Information Systems and the 2019 DeWald Roode Info Security Workshop — and he’s Co-Chairing the 2025 International Conference for Information Systems.
