On the heels of its successful Sci-Fri Parents’ Night, Louisiana Tech’s IDEA Place will offer Spectacular Saturday Science Sessions.

The Saturday sessions will begin Oct. 4 for kindergarten to third-grade students. Fourth- through sixth-graders will have a session Oct. 18. Both events are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Lunch, as well as fun and learning, is included in the $25-per-child fee. The cost for each additional child per family is $12.50.

Lindsey Keith-Vincent, museum educator with the IDEA Place, said the initial sessions will explore matter. The Oct. 4 session is titled ‘Mysterious Matter’; the second session for the older students will be ‘What’s the Matter?’

A minimum of 10 students is needed for each session to make, so Keith-Vincent said parents should be sure to call in advance.

What’s more, she added, ‘Our first Sci-Fri (on Sept. 12) was a great success, and since we had so much fun, we decided to offer our next Sci-Fri one week earlier — on October 3.’

Sci-Fri Parents’ Nights are normally from 6:30-9:30 p.m. the second Friday of each month and are open to children ages 5-12.

The idea behind parents’ nights? ‘Enjoy a Friday night out with your spouse while your children enjoy experiments and excitement at the IDEA Place,’ Keith-Vincent said.

Cost for Sci-Fri is $20 per child and includes pizza and a drink. As with Spectacular Saturdays, the fee for each subsequent child per family is half price.

Keith-Vincent has another deal as well: ‘If your movie runs a bit late, we will also offer late pick up at 10 p.m. for an additional $5 per child.’

Space for Sci-Fri is limited, so Keith-Vincent encourages parents to call the IDEA Place so that officials can keep a tally of who is planning to attend.

Another Sci-Fri event is planned for Nov. 14.
