Dr. Ray Schroeder, professor emeritus and director of the Office of Technology-Enhanced Learning at the University of Illinois at Springfield, will present on active online learning and making the transition from face-to-face instruction to an online pedagogy on Tuesday, Oct. 28, in Wyly Auditorium on the campus of Louisiana Tech as part of the Dennis Minor Lecture Series.

The morning presentation will look at trends toward technology transparency by focusing on the evolutionary process to make new instructional technologies simpler, intuitive, and less obtrusive. Schroeder will address the positive impact these new technologies have on the teaching and learning process.

The afternoon workshop will introduce the newest digital technologies used in online education. It will also focus on the Sloan-C Five ‘Pillars’ for Quality Online Education blended with elements of the Quality Matters Rubric for course design.

Admittance to the event is free, but pre-registration is required for the faculty workshop.

Schroeder began working with interactive computer learning technologies through the PLATO system in the mid-1970s. Having taught more than 30 years at the University of Illinois, in both Urbana-Champaign and Springfield, his research interests focus on the application of technology to enhance learning and to extend educational opportunities to those who are seeking alternatives to traditional higher education opportunities.

Schroeder received the 2002 Sloan Award for Most Outstanding Achievement in ALN by an Individual and was a Sloan-C Distinguished Scholar in Online Learning 2002-2003. He is “visiting scholar in online learning” at the University of Southern Maine 2006-2008 and his Online Learning Update and Educational Technology blogs are widely read and syndicated around the world.
