Three Louisiana Tech students reached the semi-finals at a regional vocal conference, and of those one placed third in the senior women competition.

Tech students were among more than 400 competitors from universities across Louisiana, Arkansas and Mississippi at the annual conference of the Southern regional National Association of Teachers of Singing. The event was held at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches from Nov. 6-8.

Participants had to undergo preliminary-round auditions to reach the semi-final rounds, which then led to the final competition.

Lana Carver, a senior music performance major from Ruston, earned third place in the senior women category.

Those reaching the semi-finals were Laura Ulrich, a senior music major from Monroe, and Wesley Henderson, a sophomore civil engineering major and music minor from Ruston.

Tech students were accompanied by Dr. Daniel Immel, an assistant professor of music and head of piano studies. They study under Drs. Lisa Maxedon and Laura Mobley Thompson, also assistant professors of music.
