A Louisiana Tech professor of theater who has received multiple national awards in the United States is now making waves across the Atlantic.

Mark Guinn, a professor of design and movement for actors, taught this summer at the British National Stage Combat Workshop in London.

In an era when the international aspect of education is of growing importance, Guinn found definite plusses in his time abroad.

‘The thing that is most exciting is going over there and working with folks who are bringing their world perspective and artistic sensibilities to bear on the work,’ he said. Students in the classes, held at the Islington Arts & Media School, came from all over the world, which is not the norm in North Louisiana’s theater programs, Guinn said.

He cited three young women from Germany who work in the medical field, but who had formed a local theater company similar to the Ruston Community Theatre. Another participant in the workshop is the founder of a Shakespearean theater company in Jerusalem.
