Twelve high school students from northeastern Louisiana gathered to talk about Louisiana Tech’s nursing curriculum at the North Louisiana Area Health Education Center Day held March 18.

Participating students were able to talk with Nursing Director Pamela Moore as well as nursing faculty members Lucy Douglas and Tanya Sims. Nursing students Aimie Albritton, a junior from El Dorado, Ark.; Clay Bryant, a senior from St. Francisville; Lauren Frizzell, a junior from Bossier City; Lauren Holland, a junior from Shreveport; and LaTosha Mollette, a senior from Ruston, were also on hand to answer any of the high school students’ questions.

Students also went through a skills lab, led by nursing faculty Mary Wilson and Pam Todd. The skills lab included a series of hands-on demonstrations, which included sterile gloving and gowning and IV and syringe preparation. Students also rotated interaction with the Simulation Meti-Man, which allowed them to listen to heart and lung sounds. Placing the finishing touches on their day, the students visited other departments within the College of Applied and Natural Sciences such as medical technology, health information management, nutrition and dietetics, and child life.
