The first film installment for Louisiana Tech’s Shaping the 21st Century: Focus on Latin America will take place Wednesday, March 25.

“I, the Worst of All,” directed by Maria Lusia Bemberg, will be shown at 6:30 p.m. at the A.E. Phillips Planetarium. The movie is based on the life of Sister Juana Ines de la Cruz, who is considered one of the greatest poets of 17th century Spain. She lived in a convent in Mexico and was influential in the struggle between church and state.

Dr. Stephen Webre, head of the department of history and who will introduce the film as part of March 2009 Women’s History Month, said this was a major example in Latin American film.

The film is free and open to the public.

The next event in the Focus on Latin American series will be the International Days Food and Cultural Festival on March 31.
