Tech hosts disaster training, drill

Apr 7, 2009 | General News

Upper level nursing students at Louisiana Tech will participate in a mock disaster training drill in front of Lomax Hall at South Campus on Wednesday and Thursday, April 8-9.

The training session will take place Wednesday. The mock disaster, which involves a suicide bomber exercise, will occur Thursday, starting around 9 a.m.

“The first day is training day,” said Ramona Guin, an assistant nursing professor. “The second day we will have a mock training drill with a suicide bomber.”

Tech, the Ruston Fire Department and the Ruston Police Department are participating in the mock drill, which is part of the University of Louisiana System’s Learn and Serve grant program. Thirty-five Tech nursing students will participate, and out of that total, 27 will be mock victims.

Tech students who are interested in observing should wear a Louisiana Tech shirt so those participating in the drill can tell who is in the drill and who is not.

Media who are interested in attending should contact Judith Roberts, senior writing associate, at jroberts@latech.edu.
