Apr 20, 2009 | General News

Louisiana Tech’s student newspaper, The Tech Talk, and a recent journalism graduate received regional awards from the Society of Professional Journalists.

Mary Nash-Wood, who graduated in the fall of 2008, of El Dorado, Ark., received second place in the Region 12 Mark of Excellence Award competition for general news reporting. The staff of The Tech Talk also received second place as Best All-Around Non-Daily Student Newspaper, published less than four times per week.

“Mary was a brilliant student and a dedicated journalist during her time on our staff,” said Judith Roberts, Tech Talk faculty adviser. “We have an excellent staff with curious minds and hard workers. These awards only exemplify their reporting skills.”

The Society of Professional Journalists is dedicated to encouraging the free practice of journalism and stimulating high standards of ethical behavior. Region 12 is made up of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee.
